Unfortunately, Ghosts released to mixed reviews from both critics and fans and is widely considered one of the worst games in the series comparatively, prompting Infinity Ward to move onto Infinite Warfare and the Modern Warfare reboot rather than develop a sequel.

The Call of Duty franchise is in a pretty strange place right now. The release of last year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot breathed new life into a tired series and the accompanying standalone Call of Duty: Warzone battle royal helped bolster the series to the best place its been in years.
